The United States of Hoodoo
A documentary by Oliver Hardt and Darius James
Music by Arto Lindsay

This documentary film is a road trip to the sources of black popular culture, a journey into the fabric of African-rooted, urban creativity. Darius James, the author of That´s Blaxploitation!!!! and Negrophobia, and German director and filmmaker Oliver Hardt (Black Deutschland) set off from New York City to travel around the United States meeting a most unlikely array of African gods who have taken on new forms along the way. Their quest is to find voodoo’s contemporary forms of expression in music, arts and culture and to learn about their universal spiritual sources.
